Secret Agent Dude

Last weekend marked the end of the summer season in regards to the work I do. We always serve this rather secretive group that has been coming to Aspen this time of year for the last 23 years. Our company provides the transportation for some 250 people in attendance. I could tell you the name of this annual event…but I’d have to hunt you down and terminate you

So this year, a major political foreign figure was in attendance and I was assigned the duty of hauling the luggage under the supervison of the Secret Service. Yes, the Secret Service.

For two days, I was a Secret Agent Dude…disguised as a lowly Luggage Van Driver Dude. You never would have recognized me. I was asked ordered to swallow a voice altering device which remained in my body for the duration of the assignment. No longer did I possess the calming lilt so characteristic of us Southern Gents. Instead, my voice was distinctly French…the only disappointment of the entire duty.

Thankfully, I’m now back to normal. Frenchness does not suit me.

It’s Easter Sunday morning and I’m working the counter at Aspen Airport.
NOT BUSY.
The piped in music is making me barking mad.

An imperfection. When I’m bored I lose the ability to count…among others. (think evenly spaced numbers.)
But eating? I’m quite skilled at that when boredom strikes. A Master in fact. A Guru. An eating Strategerist.

I don’t count what I eat though. For obvious reasons.

Glenwood Springs Colorado is where the dentist/gunslinger Doc Holliday is buried. He died there from “consumption” or tuberculosis. He was only 36. Best known for his involvement in the Gunfight at the O.K Corral, I’d have to speculate that perhaps things were not O.K. there.

So, being that this famous character of the old west died in Glenwood Springs, and that he was dependent on alcohol and laudanum, it only makes sense that there would be a tavern bearing his name.

The huge neon sign hangs over the tavern entry and is by far one of the coolest signs I’ve seen.

Note to self…it’s hard to sketch neon. And I just realized the green is kinda ugly on this sign.

We humans go to a LOT of trouble to have fun don’t we?
