Remember, if you will, the sound of a fire engine siren. oooooOOOOOOOOoooooo…starts low, increases, then tails off. Remember? And also recall that ambulance and police sirens are not like that. Now that you have that in mind, get this:

The only thing that makes Ben howl is a fire engine siren. I dunno why, but if a fire engine goes by with siren blaring, he will drop what he’s doing, or wake from a dead sleep, go into another place in his mind, and howl like there’s no tomorrow.

And on pitch no less!

Mr. Squeaky. It is amazing to me how quickly Ben can go from sound asleep to chasing my hand around the perimeter of his head, simply because I squeaked his squeaky toy.

Instantaneous is the word.

From snore to woof in two heartbeats.

It takes me two hours…

Doing the laundry at the “Cajun Cleaners” today. Yes, I live in the Rockies. No, I don’t know why it’s called “Cajun Cleaners”. I have seen stranger things here…believe me.
Anyway, waiting on the goods to finish, I thought I would draw Ben sleeping in the car. However, he always moves in mid-sketch when he hears the scritch-scritch of the pen on the paper.

Perhaps a small sedative next time would help.

Pooped Pup

Pooped PupI’m a bit tardy getting this up on the blog. Well…ok…a bit tardy is five minutes. I’m actually fifteen days late getting this up on the blog. In the immortal words of Roger Miller…”Dang me, Dang me, they oughta take a rope and hang me.”

Fact is I’ve been lazy. At least I admit my faults without hesitation eh?

I thought I’d resurrect “The Book of Ben” with this sketch and also post the other sketches in the book since I love this little fella so much. He’s an angel in disguise I’m convinced. So over the next few days I’ll post the previous pages in the book. All of which used to exist here prior to the hack job. The dates on the sketches won’t jive with the blog, but hey, neither does this one :-)
